The SCIP Plastics project, CUET successfully organized a workshop on “Green Shift: Shaping a Plastic-Free Future for Students’ Residences” at CUET’s TSC on October 21, 2024. The workshop’s main objective was to raise awareness about reducing plastic pollution and encourage the use of jute products instead of plastic on the CUET campus and in student halls. The event’s chief guest was Professor Dr. Sudip Kumar Pal, the interim Vice-Chancellor of CUET. Special guests included Professor Dr. Sheikh Muhammad Humayun Kabir, Registrar (Additional Charge) of CUET, Professor Dr. Aysha Akter, Head of the Civil Engineering Department, Professor Dr. Sajal Chandra Banik, Director of the Directorate of Research and Extension, Professor Dr. Asiful Hoque, Scientific Expert of the SCIP Plastics Project, and Dr. Md. Saiful Islam, Deputy Director of the Directorate of Student’s Welfare. The workshop was chaired by Professor Dr. Mst. Farzana Rahman Zuthi, Scientific Director of the SCIP Plastics Project. The workshop was attended by hall authorities of every student hall, dining hall staff, dining managers, and owners of various shops in the university. Participants in the workshop highlighted the importance of using jute bags to reduce plastic use and taking necessary steps to create awareness, overcome the obstacles of use the alternative of plastic, among other vital issues.
