A meeting with Deputy Harbour Master Capt. Md. Shahadat Hossain was held on 1st march. Motiur Rahman-Executive Engineer of the Civil and Hydraulics Department and the members of the WG IV of the SCIP plastics project were present in the meeting. He mentioned the garbage management of foreign ships according to MARPOL, how waste is collected from the ships, a garbage logbook maintained by every foreign ship, and talked about the upcoming modern waste management system of Mongla port. The WGIV team guided by Motiur Rahman visited a local ship, a dredging ship, and a foreign ship and observed the waste management system of those ships. Every local ship has a port dues from the ports they visit. They load the goods from big ships and distribute them throughout the country. They do not have

any waste management. The name of the foreign ship was SSI Invincible II. It followed MARPOL Annex V rules and had an incineration facility as well.
