On October 2, 2022, a meeting was held with the Chairman of the Chattogram Port, Rear admiral M. Shahjahan at his office. On behalf of the SCIP team, Scientific director – Prof Dr. Farzana Rahman Zuthi, Scientific experts – Prof Dr. Sudip Kumar Pal and Prof Dr. Asiful Hoque, Project Coordinator of the Board of Directors – Gregor Biastoch, Scientific expert of the Waste lab – Dr.-Ing. Thomas Haupt and Research Associate – Senta Berner were present. The Chairman said, millions of dollar have been spent for 10m excavation in the river bed to take out the wastes, and the port authority is active to reduce plastic pollution within port. The Chairman assured to give his support in data collection, and urged the SCIP team to come up with a pragmatic solution to implement.
Later on, a meeting was held among the Member (Engineering) – Commodore Md. Mahbubur Rahman, Deputy Conservator – Captain Faridul Alam, previously mentioned SCIP team and CUET’s Research members of Working Group IV and V. The Engineer emphasized to see waste as an asset. The Deputy conservator told us about the quarter annual report that they submit to the Department of Shipping, and gave his consent to share the reports to the SCIP team.
